Cash Back Starting Guide
by: Tom Tessin
So, you’ve finally decided that you want to apply for a credit card that gives you cash back. The only thing now is that you want to learn a little bit more about them before you actually apply for that perfect credit card. Cash back credit cards are very simple to understand and the purpose of this article is to help better explain what you should look for when you’re applying for a credit card.
Check the rates
Like any credit card you apply for in life, you have to check out the rates of the card before you actually apply. The most important rate you’re going to want to look at is the APR rate. This of course is going to be the rate that is charged to your balance. On top of the APR rate, you will want to also check on the intro rates and how long they will last. Some credit card companies tend to mislead you with introductory rates that don’t last that long.
Where can you use the rebates?
All cash back credit cards are different and it’s up to you to decide which one is going to work for you. Every credit card company is going to offer different percentages on particular items. One credit card may offer five percent back on gas purchases only while the other credit card will offer one percent cash back on all purchases you make. Your job is to look over your budget and see exactly what you spend your money on. From there, you’ll want to look over the card’s terms.
Check the limit
Believe it or not, some credit cards may have a limit of how much your rebate can be each month. Most credit card companies do have a limit but make sure that the card you’re applying for has a decent credit card limit. You’re not going to want a credit card that only allows you get twenty dollars back per month; this will not even be worth signing up. As mentioned above, this information is all available on the application page, usually under the terms and condition page.
How do you get the rebates?
Credit card companies vary when it comes to paying out your rebate. You’re going to want to know how and when you get your rebate back. Some card companies may send you a check each month, while others will send you a credit on your balance statement. Depending on how you want your cash back, make sure that you look into this as well.
These four points are the main points when it comes to applying for a cash back credit card. It’s up to you to do the extensive research and get your questions answered. If you can’t get your questions answered on the application page, make sure that you call up the card company itself. They will usually be more than happy to assist you with whatever questions you may have for them.
