If you’re in the hunt for a great reward credit card, you’re going to find that there’s a big selection out there, even with the economy. Many people out there are thinking that just because the economy is poor, they aren’t going to be able to find a card that suits their needs. This couldn’t be further from the truth!

Tips on how you can find the perfect reward card

Can you pay your card off on time?

Look at all of the credit cards that you have right now. Do you pay them all off on time, in full? If you do, you’re a perfect candidate already for a reward card. The reason why is because if you don’t pay in full, you’re going to find out that you have to pay those silly interest rates. When interest rates are at 29%+, the rates are going to outweigh the rewards.

Rewards take a long time to build up

If you want to get a gift card for every $100 you spend, you’re out of luck. Keep in mind that you’re going to have to wait a long time when it comes down to building up rewards. Some cards, you’ll find that it might take as much as $5,000 just to earn rewards. Remember that this is going to be better than nothing.

Do the math on the card

A good reward card in my eyes doesn’t have an annual fee, or any fees for that matter. If you find that your card has fees, you’re going to find that the fees once again, will outweigh the rewards. But, there are great cards out there that do have fees, and you can make a lot of money via rewards. If you spend a lot with a card, you will find that the fees are worth it.

Know what you’re getting

Since every card is different, you’ll want to make sure you know what you’re getting. Some cards are going to give you more than just points. Some may include travel insurance, a toll free helpline, etc. Look at your terms and conditions to see all the rewards that you can take advantage of.
