Starving for cash?  One place to drastically cut down on costs is in your grocery bill – while still eating healthy.  Here are some tips for maintaining a $75-per-month food budget (for one person).

Spend the big bucks early

When you buy in bulk, the cost can be pretty high up front.  However, in the long run, the savings are enormous.  Find a warehouse store and stop by first thing at the beginning of the month.  Recommended purchases are cereal, meats, and frozen vegetables.

Create weekly menus and stick to them

If you know what you need to buy, you’re less likely to get distracted on your grocery store runs and throw some unnecessary, expensive items in the cart.  Another tip for smart shopping: never shop hungry.  Always make sure you’ve eaten right before you head through those automatic doors.

Match coupons to sales

Hopefully you get the weekly flyers that your local stores send out.  If not, consider purchasing a newspaper subscription, or pick up the mid-week paper (usually when new sales begin).  Never throw away the packs of coupons the manufacturers send you.  Then, study the ad papers to see which grocery stores are selling your staples cheap that week, and add the manufacturers’ coupons for additional savings.

Eat some staple foods weekly

Here are some examples of cheap meals that you could eat weekly:

  • Hot dogs
  • Bean burritos
  • Fried rice
  • Grilled cheese sandwiches

These and other weekly staples with keep your budget down, as a purchase made one week will carry over as long as the food doesn’t spoil.

Utilize local farmers markets

Eating cheap can become eating unhealthy if you aren’t careful.  To avoid this, visit your local farmers markets for fresh, inexpensive produce that you can add to pastas, soups, and salads to get you your daily vitamins and minerals.

Want to find some coupons that can save you a load of money.  Well, I wanted to sit back, and show you some of the different types of coupons that are out there that you can take advantage of.

Flyer coupons

Each Sunday your local paper provides to you a coupon section.  There can be great savings in this as there are often more than fifty coupons to cut out and use at your local shopping center which can through the year and up to huge savings.  Many people feel that saving fifty cents or buying three to save a dollar isn’t worth the time to cut the coupon but it is if it is a product that you often need.

In store coupons

Your food store will often have a flyer at the front door as you enter.   In the flyer that store will also have great coupons that can only be used at that store.  Often they include big savings on their deli and bakery items as well as many overstock and seasonal items.  Many times these in store coupon items are located at the front of each isle so they are easy to spot.

Shelf coupons

Shelf coupons are in store coupons that advertise right where the product is.  It may say 10 for 10 or buy one get one free.  This can be a very big savings to you throughout the year. This is also a great way to stock up on many of your weekly dry and canned goods that often need replacing weekly.

Go online

Going online is another great way to save with coupons is to become a member of online coupons. There are many great sites dedicated just to coupons.  These are available to print right away and can be anything from pet food to frozen vegetables.

Coupon Clubs

Create a coupon club.  Each member uses the above tools to gather coupons and once a month meets and shares all their coupons.  Depending on the number of members there could be hundreds of coupons to choose from.
