Many shoppers use coupons that are a given fact for consumers and merchants. The world of coupons exists everyplace today in the market place. Coupon mania struck the economy like a flash and it is expected to remain for a very long time. The idea behind coupons is very simple. The consumer saves money on a product and the merchant sells more products.  The manufacturer also plays a role in the system by giving the consumer a rebate or money back if the customer buys the product.

The consumer is very happy to be able to save at the cash register with instant savings from a coupon. The consumer in a lot of cases like the idea of getting a refund check from the manufacturer called rebate. The consumer feels that they are the winner because they have bought a product that they use or wanted at a savings. The merchant feels that he has made a good sale because he has sold products that he might ordinarily not move very quickly or a hot item offered to the consumer has helped him sell other items to the customer. The manufacturer is very glad to know that he has sold more products which in turn he can now make more keeping his factory busy.

Many consumers collect coupons from where ever they can and save them until they expire. There are some grocery stores that offer double coupon day while others will let you use a coupon on the same brand but let you substitute. One good example is a consumer might have a coupon for .25cts off of toilet paper by a certain brand company but the consumer picks up a roll of paper towels instead but the same brand as the toilet paper then the grocery clerk may give the consumer the discount.  The reason being is the consumer shops with the store often and probably already bought the toilet paper the week before the coupon came out or will be buying it in the future. In a case like this it is best not to make a fuss and give the consumer the credit.

Since many consumers live by coupon shopping especially when it comes to buying groceries and personal items the market place usually floods the local newspapers, mail-out flyers and in store coupons. The consumer can go online and get coupons from the manufacturer all this makes it possible for the average household to save on the cost of buying food. Coupons often have the same value as using real money only they can only be spent towards the product intended. Still the average consumer does much of their shopping using coupons.

Credit Cards with RewardsToday with our economy being in a very bad slump and many people jobless consumers are ever mindful of any savings or cash back rewards. The credit card companies are very much aware of this and in order to keep consumers using the card are offering cash back rewards. The credit card companies find that if the consumer is only able to pay the high interest rate and a small amount on the loan it is better than not having any customers. In order to keep a good quality of customers that are employed and very capable of making payments on their account the credit card companies compete for the business. Each consumer is consider very important in the credit business so the credit card companies market to each one in a way they feel will bring in more business.

Today consumers are highly interested in coupons, rebates or any type of savings that puts money in their pocket. That is why credit card companies started the cash rewards programs. The cash reward programs usually works on a point system instead of actual cash money. You earn points that can be applied towards different things that you normally would want to purchase. The most outstanding reward program is that with the airlines and the credit card companies. You can earn what is called frequent flyer miles by purchasing your ticket with your credit card. When you have earned enough frequent flyer miles you can then purchase your ticket with the points instead of cash.

Banks are starting to use the cash rewards programs instead of the traditional method of giving away a free appliance for opening up your bank account. The way this program works you earn points by using your credit card/debit card when you make purchases. The points add up each month and you can trade them in to get an item from a catalog that the bank issues to you at the time you open your account. The catalog usually has a collection of gift items to select. The Discovery Card started this program many years ago and actually paid the consumer money for using the card. It worked very well and eventually other companies started similar programs only using gifts from a catalog or issuing you points to use for travel on an airlines. You can easily earn points by using your credit card or your debit card when you make purchases which will give you free gifts, frequent flyer miles or cash.

Cash back rewardsIn today’s market, it’s not hard to find a credit card that gives you cash back.  If you don’t have a credit card in your wallet right now that’s working for you, you may want to start doing some research.  I’ll show you what you should look out for when you’re looking for the perfect reward card for your purchases.

Evaulate your spending – The first thing that you want to do is look at where your money goes each and every month.  Do you like to go out to eat?  Do you drive a lot and find yourself going to a gas station almost every other day?  Sit back and write down where your money goes.  The reason you want to do this is because every card on the market is different.  Some cards will give you cash back on gas only while some will give you cash back on travel.  If you can capitalize and get the most back on your purchases, this works the best.

Study the rewards structure – The next thing you want to do is look at how the rewards are going to work.  If you’ve come to the conclusion that you want a card that gives you cash back on airline purchases, it’s now time to look at airline cards.   Obviously, you would rather have 2% cash back compared to 1% cash back but you have to look into more than that.  Generally with any card, you’re going to get rewards with every dollar you spend but more for the category you can benefit in.  If you have a travel card, you’ll get more for your dollar on travel purchases compared to grocery purchases, etc.  Look at what program will work best for you.

Read the fine print – Sure, reward cards sound great but it’s important that you read the fine print.  You may find with some cards that the points will expire or let’s say you have a travel based card, you may find that there are blackout dates or your miles expire.  You don’t want to log into your account to find out that your points are gone.

No matter who you are, if you’re in the market to find a cash back card, it’s extremely important you use these tips.   If you can follow these tips, I can assure you that you’ll find a card that works for your money.

Preventing identity theftIdentity theft is a big problem across the world.  Ever since the Internet has involved to where it is today, there have been countless situations where people have reported that their identity has been stolen.  If you’re afraid that your identity may be stolen, it’s always better to be safe now rather than sorry when it happens.

Always be smart – Every time you use your credit card, make sure you know where you’re using it.  Obviously, if you’re using it at a major establishment that’s legit, you shouldn’t have worries but you always hear about hackers getting into their systems.  While this is rare, you must always keep an eye out on your credit card statements.

Never carry your social security card- If you carry around a wallet or purse, try and keep only your driver’s license and credit cards in there.  Never carry your social security card because if you do, a thief can easily steal your identity because they will have everything they need ranging from your name to your address.

Watch your spending online – When you use your credit online, make sure that you know what business you’re actually doing business with.  Since there are so many shops online, there are a few things that you should look out for.  The main thing that you should look for is the SSL or the little lock icon in the browser bar.  This means that your data will be encrypted and it will be harder for a hacker to get your information.  Also, before you make a purchase, check with the BBB and as well as reviews online to ensure that the company is 100% legit.

Never place passwords on your cards – If you have a debit card, never place  a PIN on the card.  I know it may sound stupid for some but people actually do this.  Try and keep your passwords locked up at home or if you have to, think of a tricky way to remember them.  You can always write a different number on your card but it means something else such if your pin was 8332, you could write it backward plus 1 like 3449 and as long as you know you have to subtract one and do it backwards.  I know it sounds complicated but hopefully you know what I’m getting at.

Watch your statements and credit reports- Every time you get your credit card bill or any bill for that matter, make sure you look at it closely to make sure you’re making those purchases.  Even if there’s one purchase that looks suspicious, you have to report it.  A while back in the news, there was a report that some hackers were making .25 charges on a ton of credit cards.

While it’s not hard to do everything above, there are still ways thieves can find your identity and steal it.  It’s important that you always keep an eye out and if something does happen, make sure you contact your local police department as well as your bank right away.

Rewards with a credit cardWhen most people think of a credit card, they often just think of a piece of plastic that you swipe at your local store and pay it back later when the bill arrives in the mail.  Well, that might have been the old days and how it worked but today, it’s completely different and even if you have a average credit score, you can still benefit with reward credit cards.

Cash back rewards – One of the most popular ways to get rewards from credit cards are simply by getting cash back.  The concept is simple and many people enjoy this feature.  Let’s say the card says you get a flat out 3% cash back on all of your purchases.  When you get your credit card statement in the mail, you’ll either get the 3% off right then and there or you may have to request it.  This is all up to the credit card issuer.

Travel rewards- If you travel a lot and use services like hotels, car rental companies and more, you may want to look into a travel card like this.  Travel cards will reward you every time you make a purchase through an airline, hotel or car rental.  For example, one credit card may give you 6 points for every dollar you spend on an airline or hotel.  Once you reach 10,000 points, you can redeem it for a free hotel, airline ticket, etc.  This is all up to the company again but the rewards are endless!

Gas rewards- If you just want to save on your gasoline fill ups, you may want to check out gas reward based credit cards.  These cards will give you a percentage back every time you use your card at the pump.  Let’s say the card gives you 5% cash back.  Every time you spend $20 at the pump, you’re going to get $1 back.  It doesn’t sound like a lot but fill up 20 times and it’s like a free fill up!

When it comes to getting rewarded with your credit card, these are the three main ways you can benefit.  As long as you pay your card off on time and use it responsibly, you can really take advantage of these rewards.  With so many cards out there, make sure you do your research before you apply for one.
